The essential goal in welding is to provide a joint that has the same structure, strength, and other properties as the base metal so that the weld area itself would be undetectable.
Most welding in practice processes do make use of heat or pressure or both including but not limited to:

- Flux cored arc welding – FCAW
- Submerged arc welding- SAW
- Gas tungsten arc welding – GTAW
